TRAVELLING IN ZAMBIA

In recent years, Zambia has emerged admirably from a difficult past and while still an economically challenged country, offers some of the most authentic wildlife experiences to be found on the continent. The iconic Victoria Falls on Zambezi River and the excellent game viewing opportunities in pristine wilderness areas - the Luangwa Valley, home of the walking safari, in particular - are the biggest attractions that raise tourism interest. Healthy foreign investment in a stable political climate has seen the development of 5 star hotels, lodges and tented camps whose opulence is in sharp contrast to difficulties experienced by the local population, but with investment comes wealth creation and the people are friendly and inviting to visitors. The major cities are well developed although maintain a distinct African flavour, while the interlinking road networks are a great introduction to overland travel in Africa. For those not wanting to experience the adventure on the roads, an efficient schedule of charter flights exists to get you to the more remote areas.

Active Africa guides have explored the southern reaches of the country by 4 wheel drive, led walking safari trips and traditional 4 wheel drive safaris to the Luangwas. Visiting the town of Livingstone and the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side has been a common feature of many tours into the country.
